Student Placement History

 

Te Whatu Ora – Waitemata DHB / District Nursing  February 2026 – Current (11 weeks)

  • Performed chronic and complex wound care assessments and management in Patient’s homes and in clinical settings under the preceptor’s supervision.
  • Gained knowledge in procedures like catheter changes and catheter care, Port IV and PICC line flushing, maintenance and deaccessing, IM Bicillin administration, and on various wound care dressings.
  • Performed health education and promotion to the patient and their whanau on self-care management and disease prevention.
  • Spontaneous to work in a fast-paced environment as a team, along with the District Nurses, to assist and perform under supervision. 

Community Placement: Te Whatu Ora – Te Tokai Tumai – Greenlane Hospital / Intermediate Care (Adult Community Services) (5 weeks). 

  • Worked along with different streams of Intermediate Care, such as Rapid Community Access Team (R-CAT), Hospital in the Home (HITH), and District Nurses to assist and perform in a variety of procedures and patient assessments.
  • Assisted with patient assessments and vital signs monitoring for patients transitioning from hospital to community.
  • Support the management of acute and sub-acute management of patients in their home whilst in the care and support of the whanau and friends, thus facilitating remission and avoiding hospital readmission.

  • Administered peripheral IV medication and flushes under RN supervision.
  • Observed and assisted with medication administration, wound management and patient assessment under RN supervision.

Pediatric Placement: Te Whatu Ora / Te Toka Tumai – Starship Hospital, Ward 26A (2 weeks)
