Kia ora Penny,

I am writing to formally apply for a Graduate Registered Nurse position within the MIT Transition Healthcare programme (Ref: MIT Job 123456). Having completed my Bachelor of Nursing at Manukau Institute of Technology, I am deeply connected to the MIT community and its values of being Real, Connected, and Excellent. I am eager to transition from student to professional within an organisation that prioritises Manaakitanga and high-quality, whānau-centred care.

My clinical journey is backed by a prior career as a Chief Dental Surgeon and seven years as a Community Support Worker at Spectrum Care. These roles have equipped me with advanced clinical assessment skills, professional maturity, and the ability to build therapeutic rapport with diverse populations. My recent clinical experiences have solidified my commitment to the following ranked areas of practice:

  1. Mental Health (Community or Inpatient): Building on my placement at Pathways Māngere and my background in community support, I am passionate about recovery-focused care. I am skilled in using therapeutic communication and de-escalation to empower service users.
  2. District Nursing (Community): During my current transitional placement, I have gained high-level technical skills in complex wound management,  and have acquired sound knowledge in procedures such as PICC line maintenance, catheter changes, Intramuscular injections and much more, equipping me to enjoy the autonomy of delivering care in the home.
  3. Inpatient Medical / Surgical: My experience in the Muriwai Ward sharpened my ability to manage acute patient needs and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient care.
  4. Primary Care / Community Clinics: I am committed to health equity and preventing hospital readmission through proactive patient education and culturally safe community engagement.
  5. Paediatric Care: My placement at Starship Hospital developed my ability to provide family-centred care, ensuring the needs of our youngest service users and their whānau are met with empathy.

I am drawn to MIT Transition Healthcare because your values mirror my own clinical philosophy. I believe in being ‘Real’ by providing honest care; ‘Connected’ by weaving whānau into the care plan; and ‘Excellent’ by maintaining the high standards I developed during my dental and nursing training.

Thank you for your time and for the opportunity to interview. I look forward to contributing to the spirit of MIT Healthcare as a Registered Nurse.

Ngā mihi nui,

William Antony
