RE: Graduate Registered Nurse Application – MIT Transition Healthcare (Ref: MIT Job 123456)

Kia ora Ms Penny,

Applying for the Graduate Registered Nurse position in the MIT Transition Healthcare programme, I bring a unique clinical background as a former Chief Dental Surgeon and a Community Support Worker with 7 years' experience at Spectrum Care. Having completed my Bachelor of Nursing at MIT, I am deeply committed to the values of being Real, Connected, and Excellent, and I am eager to transition into a professional role that prioritises Manaakitanga and high-quality, whānau-centred care. Clinical Placement Preferences & Rationale:

  1. Mental Health (Community or Inpatient): My seven years at Spectrum Care supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities and complex needs have been foundational. I have developed a deep understanding of de-escalation, behavioural support, and the importance of advocating for those with cognitive impairments. I am passionate about applying my nursing clinical lens to improve health outcomes in the mental health sector.
  2. District Nursing (Community): I thrive in autonomous environments where I can build long-term therapeutic relationships to provide culturally safe, holistic support within the patient's own environment.
  3. Inpatient Medical / Surgical: My surgical background as a dentist gives me a high level of comfort with clinical procedures, wound care, and acute physiological assessment, to ensure maintaining high standards of patient safety.
  4. Primary Care / Community Clinics: I am dedicated to health promotion and preventative care, particularly for underserved communities.
  5. Paediatric Care: I enjoy the challenge of family-centric care and adapting clinical communication to meet the developmental needs of younger patients.

I believe in being ‘Real’ by providing honest, transparent care; ‘Connected’ by weaving whānau into every care plan; and ‘Excellent’ by upholding the rigorous standards I have maintained throughout my medical and nursing careers.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how my experience can contribute to the MIT Healthcare team.

Ngā mihi nui,

William Antony
